A méhari is a riding dromedary, and a méharée is a journey by camel across the dunes. Days are built around the light: early starts, a long rest in the heat of noon, and camp before dusk.

Day 1 – M'Hamid to the dunes
Meet your guide in M'Hamid, load the camels and ride through palm groves and dry river beds to the first dune field. Sunset from the crest, tagine and tea around the fire, and a night under the stars.
Middle days – Erg Chegaga
Walk and ride 5–6 hours a day across sand, hamada and dry lakes, with a cook and camel driver preparing lunch in the shade and a different camp each night.
Last day – Return
Sunrise on the dunes, breakfast, and a final ride or 4x4 back to M'Hamid, with onward transfer to Zagora, Ouarzazate or Marrakech.
Desert Camps
Camp in M'Hamid (Diafa)
Seven kilometres from M'Hamid el Ghizlane, at the door of the great desert, the Diafa camp is decorated in local style and blends into the Draa Valley oasis. It has 20 large tents, each for up to three people, with warm showers, comfortable toilets and a Moroccan restaurant with service. To reach it, ride camels for two hours from M'Hamid into the middle of the big dunes (up to 80 m high), or take a 4x4 for about 20 minutes.
Camp Chegaga
The camp stands at the foot of the Chegaga dunes, the biggest in Morocco, at about 350 m altitude and 60 km from the village of M'Hamid. It takes three days to reach by camel or on foot, or two hours by 4x4. The camp has 10 tents made by nomads from goat hair or a camel-and-wool blend on a wooden frame, each sleeping two to four people, with thick carpets, beds, mattresses, blankets and sheets. There is no electricity (small candle holders give light), and showers and toilets are available. Tell us the number of guests, the number of nights and where you want to start; the trek begins at M'Hamid and we arrange transport from Ouarzazate and Marrakech.
Wild camp
For a 100% nomad experience we offer wild camps. The tents can be pitched wherever you like in the desert: you choose your guide and the place where you prefer to spend the night.
